As you enter the town, you will see palm-lined streets with shops for all tastes, from extravagant to simple souvenirs. All within walking distance of the hotels,
the oceanfront is the most compelling. The irresistible beauty of La Jolla Cove encourages a walk right after you have settled into your hotel.
The La Jolla cove is part of an ecological reserve area known as the San Diego - La Jolla Underwater Park.
If you walk South, you will come to Children’s Pool Beach.
It is a small sandy cove protected by a sea wall. If you are visiting
between December and May, the seals with
their newborn pups will be sunning on the beach.If you walk North, you will come to a swimming cove. It is marked for long distance ocean swimming and is used year-round. La Jolla is the host each year for the Annual “La Jolla Rough Water Swim.” |

From La Jolla, go North on Torrey Pines Road. It is about a fifteen minute drive.
There are no food or beverages in the reserve, so what you pack in, you pack out.
The park has a museum at the Visitors’ center with exhibits of the history of the reserve. It will also provide you with a hiking guide for this special place.
They have over 8 miles of trails to choose from. You can walk down a trail to miles of unspoiled beaches or stay on the high trials with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. Both are enjoyable walks.
Torrey Pines Gliderport It is located off of Torrey Pines Scenic Drive.
A good time to see the gliders flying is later in the day when the winds from the Pacific are pulled inward by the rising heat off the desert. Not all Seniors sit in rocking chairs!

The two courses sit majestically on the coastal cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
Bring your camera; the views from the North or the South courses are equally grand!
After golf, have lunch at The Lodge. The views from the patio are another pictorial treat overlooking the two courses with the ocean in the background.
Perhaps you will pick a day when Hang Gliders are swooping around the cliffs. |

Just a short drive south of La Jolla is Sea World.
For young or old, this marine adventure park is well worth a visit. It is fun and educational. The interaction with the animals and the trainers is unforgettable! |
